The refuge is funded by individuals around the world, primarily Australia, the UK and the US, through ongoing sponsorship and fundraising activities. A number of generous people in Mexico also support the family with donations of classes for the children and some school materials.

Basic food items, such as rice, beans, sugar, oil and powdered milk are supplied by the Welfare Departments, “IDH’. Both the IDH Municipal and Regional Departments, give invaluable support in other areas too.

Volunteers from around the world also donate their time and energy from one month to one year

Over the years the refuge has been in rented houses and in Government supplied buildings, none of which have been appropriate for the care of the growing number of children needing Pam and Alan’s help.

In July 2008 the family moved to a permanent home, purpose built for the children and their daily needs. An old building, originally used as a carpenter’s workshop, was renovated over a period of 5 years as funds were raised to complete the building.

"We desperately needed more room for the children. The bedrooms were overcrowded and the children had no outdoor area to play in. 50 children inside with temperatures reaching over 45 degrees was unbearable.

“Our new home has plenty of outdoor space for the children to run around in. The difference in the children’s moods and behaviour since the move has been remarkable. Far less squabbling, much more fun and laughing has been worth the wait.”

The refuge is continually taking in new children needing love and security and so the running costs and family needs are always growing.
